I would agree though it seems like you might start with Av and experiment with shutter speed and ISO, but think ultimately to get a reasonable picture in this light it probably takes a tripod to hold it steady for a longer shutter exposure.
Thanks Dale, I'll try using a tripod and experiment. These pictures were taken in room with good enough tubelight for photographs. In those conditions also, the photo was dark in manual mode and auto mode had to trigger flash.
The difference is flash and no flash.
You may think there was enough light but the camera clearly didn't otherwise it wouldn't have fired the flash in auto mode. It's that simple.
An exposure difference in manual and auto also depends on the flash power settings. In manual you are in full control so you have to tell the camera what to do. If the exposure is too dark YOU have to up the ISO or lower the shutter speed or aperture or increase flash power. No magic there either.
Auto will all do that for you. So it may have used max flash power and manual is not set to use max.
