Well, I think if one considers quality, the lens prices two years ago were completely ridiculous. Come to think of it, you could buy a perfectly good 50 f1.8 for 10 Euros and the only thing that a modern lens would have over it is AF. With mirrorless bodies and live view with 14x magnification and peaking, it's no wonder that the prices have risen, they were bound to.

Also putting money in the legacy glass has an obvious advantage that you are not tied to any system. Just buy a rather inexpensive body and you can see if the grass is greener on the other side or perhaps run 2 or 3 systems simultaneously and this glass is likely more durable and future proof than electronic lenses too. I think more and more people follow this logic, so again the price rise was inevitable.

I fully agree with all the points you have made.

I am a rusted-in Ricoh GXR M mount module user.  I love the gear.  It makes no pretense in being anything but a manual lens based camera.  However I have had this stock of Canon EF glass for some time now as well.  It is not usable on the GXR, but the Metabones devices now make this possible on the NEX (and others).

I am well aware of the delights of well made manual lenses and have come to really appreciate that manual focus is quite usable even if it has limitations.  Coming to a NEX body comes with a pre-made collection of good glass just shy (short) of a good set of adapters.  There is no other restriction than suitable adapters.  I can try another camera body with no extra lens investment necessary.  This is the true delight.  Also I have no need to fall out of love with my Ricoh cameras and can continue to use them at will.

The lenses can drive the best body purchase to use them on rather than the body dictate which lenses you can use.

I find the Metabones adapters have liberated (removed) the Canon lens mount shackles.  If Canon produce the camera bodies that suit my purpose and purse I can buy them, if another manufacturer can make camera bodies that suit me better then my investment in EF lenses remeins secure.  The best example is Canon's seeming incapability to make a high-level EVIL-type camera - their EF-M is a half-hearted attempt that lacks significant attributes.  Furthermore it predicts a completely new series of EF-M lenses to be released and bought locking in these lens buyers to aps-c format and a lengthy wait for another round of lenses to be produced.  Canon buyer's loyalty must surely be tested. I have no stomach (goodwill) to run off and buy another set of Canon lenses that will attempt to lock me into a new mount system that cannot be used on a FF sensor body - am I crazy?

Of course larger format existing EF lenses can be used via their adapter on a make-do (?) body when there are other cameras such as the NEX6/7 that arguably already do that purpose better by using a Metabones "Smart Adapter" or "Speed Booster".  Too little too late?  There is already another way, but by recycling my old lenses I have not closed any doors with Canon.
