This statement has a tipping point as writing to the the card takes longer for larger files, so the slower the card the closer the point where compressing in memory would make sense. Overall I think I'll create a script or something that would put every RAF file in a .zip file to save space.
Another option is to turn on compression in NTFS. The trouble there is that it will not do any good to .jpg files and may impact performance with those. Still, that's much simpler than writing a script
