Starting with Leica? - literally

You have asked the wrong questions.

Beginners always ask the wrong questions.

Why?

Because they lack the experience to ask the right questions.

If you had said what your photographic intent was, what your prior experience was, your successes, your failures, what your existing equipment had kept you from doing, one could give you a better answer, one based on who you are as a photographer and what your photographic needs are.

But a for a beginner there is only one answer --dive in and start making mistakes.   From your mistakes you will learn to be a photographer.

It is very unlikely that you will luck into your dream camera on first purchase.   I certainly didn't.  None of your pictures are going to be good, except by good luck, for some period to come.   Fortunately, your eye will not tell you this until your ability to make them improves.   That is why this camera decision is unimportant.   It is best to think of it as a throwaway.

There was a head doctor in my latest photo class of my advanced aged who had pulled a trigger on getting a Leica as he (and I) had dreamed about for decades.   His work was awful, and a I bet worse than it had been before.   It takes time to get used to a new camera, even if experienced.

The romance of a Leica is a lovely.   But then you have to use the darn thing.  To take pictures.

Taking a good picture is a lot more difficult, and satisfying, than buying a legendary camera.

Make the Leica your second or third advanced camera, after you've done the hard part --learned the craft and how it relates to you.
