Port Royal Dad,

that situation can sure yield less than good results, whether indoors or out.  I've taken to using a collapsible light diffuser that has 5 different sides to it.  I typically use the diffused light one the most, closely followed by the black sided one for a clutter free background.  Got both from ebay for cheap and have used them a lot.  I'd suggest anyone that photographs small subjects could make use of them.  Thanks for your response, Mike
