Well, if I'm understanding the concept, the reason for trying to do this, is to avoid or reduce clipping of highlights. But it's already too late, this is bolting the stable door after the horse has fled. The highlights are lost because of saturation at the sensor, the buckets which collect electrons are full to overflowing. Anything which is done afterwards cannot compensate for the original problem. The information is already lost before it even reaches your proposed inversion circuitry.
