Lots of great idea's. I particularly agree with the raking light, and keeping things at an angle. To keep the glare (specular light) out of the image, it important to think that the light must hit the object at a low angle and let it rake across the object. The angle the light hits the object is the same as the angle it leaves the object, so keep it sideways and not towards the camera. This we all agree on. However what is most important is to devise multiple set ups and follow through with them. This may take days, and should not be a surprise. Photography is not taking pictures, it is making pictures.
