By default, all of my OM-D and E-PL1 files have the following caption in the IPTC Caption field:

Ummm, okay... thanks for that Olympus. As if I couldn't tell from the EXIF data...
Does anyone know if there's a way to turn this auto-captioning off? I'd prefer it if the IPTC Caption field were left blank. After all, OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA is a pretty meaningless caption.
Thanks.
What Sean said. If you use LR you can make an import Preset that erases the content of that field (and puts your Name and/or copyright in other fields). There are other ways to accomplish IPTC field editing if you don't use LR,
To add to what Bob says you can use Lightroom's smart collection function to remove this caption from all your existing images.
This changes the caption and empties the smart collection. If you apply the import preset as Bob suggest you can now delete the empty smart collection you just created.

I basically filtered my LR library last night to select all of the OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA captions and batch deleted.
The recommendation to create an import preset is an excellent one. One worry I have is that sometimes I use a laptop when traveling for longer periods of time, and I caption my raws on it and import all of the raws+xmp files into my LR catalog on my main machine. If I don't remember to modify that import preset before importing, all of those captions will be lost, correct? I guess I'll still have the captions on the laptop, so not *that* big a deal to re-import. Thanks for the suggestions!| Post (hide subjects) | Posted by | When | |
