The cost of material in roll form can often be less but not always compared to cut sheet price. That's pretty easy to check by comparing cut sheet price to roll price on a per square foot, inch, meter, etc., basis. However, even when roll price per unit area is significantly less, whether you save money also depends on how you value the cost of your labor, how productive/efficient you are at converting from roll to cut sheet, and how much scrap you generate when doing so.
