You may well be correct on the d90. I had just assumed that it would meter with AI-S, since its presumed successor, the d7k does. I'm not sure that it matters, given that we don't know if he's wanting high MPs and/or high ISO performance. If he wants both, the d7000 would be the cheapest body that I can think of.
