Photographic roll paper

I want to lower the cost of purchasing 17" X 22" paper (for an Epson 3880) and found that the price per print is far less expensive if I purchase a 100' roll and then cut it as needed. I have no clue as to  whether or not this is a good idea. Has anyone else done this?
