2 PP questions

I asked this question but cant find it any more in the forum. Sorry if I am repeating.

I converted a picture to B&W in LR4 and one of the steps involved increasing the lightness by 53. The effect seems to be brightening the image. But now I cant remember how I did it and where is the slider.

the second question is about CS6. I used to select highlights in CS3 using cntrl+alt+shift+~ keys. Doesnt seem to work in CS6. Have I got it wrong or has this short-cut been discontinued?
