Olympus are "stupid". Why make silver lenses?

A company in financial difficulty duplicates lens manufacturing requirements needlessly, produces a pestilence of compacts, yet can't run to a timely E-series update. Was it really worth 'updating' the m.zuiko 75-300?

I too see no sense in their approach. Surely, a handful of clearly-differentiated products is the way to go.
