Hi all,
My son was at a handball cup over a weekend, and I spent some time taking pictures:
(No pictures of him though, I focused on cheering on hes games)
I gained some experiences during these days:
- Very happy with the results!
- The a77 works great for this kind of shooting.
- Doing it in live-view was a breeze.
- I think, the Tamron 17-50/2.8 sometimes struggled with AF speed, no hunting, but some pictures are not pin sharp.
- I would benefit from a fast telezoom lens with good AF for the next time.
So, help me out with the last one, where should I look to find that lens? I really like f2.8 , I guess could f4 would work, but anything slower would force me above ISO1600, and push the a77 out of its comfort zone. AF-speed seems crucial.
I'm looking at the tamron 70-200 , but maybe there are better options.
I think a 5-0150 (+) range would be optimal...
Any hints and tips are appreciated!

If you were able to shoot those pictures with a 17-50mm than I would not be bothered with a 70-200mm. These will be still f2.8 and with these light conditions it still be a strugle; there is not enough light to freeze the action and probably suffer from camera movement too. I would go for fast 50mm f1.4 (Sigma has HSM) or if money is not problem: a 85mm f1.4 or 135mm f1.8.
Additionally I would recommend to shoot in RAW. With Noise Reduction (in for example Lightroom) you can get pretty good results even when using ISO 3200. Personally I rather have grainy pictures than blurry pictures. And further more the WB is off in your pictures. In RAW you can easily correct it.
