First check your printer profile and a print

Open a blank image and past in a patch of black (0,0,0) about .5" wide.

Print the image using your printer's profile and a color managed workflow using relative colorimetry. Measure the L*a*b* values with the I1 Pro using whatever tool you prefer.

Convert the image to your printer's profile using relative colorimetry with black point correction. Measure the "L" value in the black patch.

The two values should match fairly closely. L* of around 20 is roughly a Density of 1.5. Most Mattes have a slightly higher density and correspondingly lower L*.
