I think they did. You've reminded me that way back in the last century one of the reasons I bought a Minolta SLR was that it was the most comfortable SLR in the shop. My first really good digital camera was a Sony R1. Very comfortable in the hand. My current A77 is a very comfortable camera, fits my hands very well, control buttons well laid out and distinguishable by feel. All three very different and all three very satisfying ergonomically.
