Never remove the memory card while the camera is still powered and use the plastic card holders to store the cards or at minimum keep the SD card contacts from getting dirty.
My new GH3 froze-up on me and I had to resort to removing the battery get it working again. I think it was due to not waiting long enough to remove the SD card after turning off the power switch. Pay attention to the red "writing to the card icon" as it showed as a symptom when the problem occurred. I believe a file was damaged and when I put the card back in all seemed fine until I took the first pic when it would lock (no button or knob would do anything even the power switch) and the "icon" on the left side of the EVF showing movie camera and a narrow rectangle appeared along with the red "write to the card icon." All has been well since I've reformatted cards and paid attention to waiting longer.
As for card holders I got a few of these not only for protection, but also for help in organizing. Cheap and the flaps snap closed firmly, but sorry I've forget what they are called and the type on the back is too tiny for me to read. "E" is for EMPTY
As for organizing unfortunately ... I need more help than these provide ... getting old and empty is the pits!
