I've certainly seen the mode dial problem - I occasionally find the camera in the wrong mode when I switch it on - although it hasn't happened for a while. This has been reported by a few people with the E-30, and moving the mode dial out of and back to the desired mode always fixes it.
The other issues sound more serious. Are you using a battery grip? If so, try the camera without it and see if the problem persists. If it does, sound like time for a service.
If you're using a grip and it's OK without it, try cleaning all the contacts and on both camera and grip and push the contact pins on the top of the grip in a few times to make sure none of them are stuck.
