Canyonlands National Park, Island in the Sky section, then to White Rim Road - dirt road. The visit to the amnesia clinic did it! Mikemsphoto . . .Mike? nailed it!!!!! Can't wait to do it right!!!!!! (D600 and a few pieces of super glass). I was able to identify the area with google pictures once I got close.

Wow. Amazing. Sometimes this forum can be so awesome!!!!! Thanks again to all - and especially Mike.

Yer welcome. If you go on Google Earth near Dead Horse Point and leave Panoramio photos on, there are lots of pix people have posted along Potash Rd, and White Rim Road that show that conehead thingy that appears on the top of your ridge though I think it's behind.

Yep. The photos were the final clue. Thanks again.

Have fun going back there, amazing part of the world.

When you're on Grand View Point Rd driving south, take a right into Upheaval Dome Rd (about 200 yard past Mesa Arch viewpoint ) Half way Upheaval Dome Rd you're close to the canyon on your left and there you have this view when you look west.
