Sony or old Minolta 200mm F2.8
Jan 31, 2013

In preparation for the upcoming baseball season, I plan to upgrade my Sony 75-300 F4.5/4.6 to a 200mm F2.8, for higher speed and better performance at dusk. I use a Sony a55, and I mostly use the long lens for my kids' sporting events. Sony makes a spendy 80-200 (or maybe 70-200?) f2.8, and there are a couple of old Minoltas with similar numbers, well-regarded on here. But the Minoltas are harder to find, and buying new provides a warranty and some convenience even if the products are identical.

Has anyone used both lenses, and have an opinion about which is better? Or, I guess, adding the Sigma or Tamron competitors into the mix? I'm an amateur and just a step or two past newbie, but I aspire to be, well, a serious amateur, maybe.

Thanks for any suggestions,
