you can again return to your zoom - it is more versatile...

Zoom is indeed more versatile but the problem is I have kids and will have for a long time and the kind of photography that I do most will always require me to have fast prime lenses, so given my limited budget a couple of fast primes should be better overall than the zoom

I'm presently waiting for delivery of a 7D, and before deciding I contemplated the Nikon D600. I decided against it considering all the pros and cons. Biggest con, of course was the extra $$$. To me, considering the 7D has been rated as a great camera that takes very sharp images, I thought that it would be best to put the monetary difference towards quality glass. Besides, are you going to shoot professionally down the road? Are you going to require images that will cover the side of a bus? Considering the style of shooting that you have commented on, perhaps it might be to your best interest to invest in glass, quality glass. It's really the quality of the lens that will give you better image quality, and not just a bigger sensor camera. If you have a limited budget perhaps keep what you have. Remember: you buy a camera like the D600, but unless you equal it with good quality (expensive) lenses, it won't perform much different than your 7D, but the 7D will out perform the D600 with good glass on the front than a D600 with mediocre lenses that perhaps you might only be able to afford after blowing a bank roll on the Nikon. Just an opinion mind you. All the best no matter what you decide.

Cheers
