FZ200 and Use of Teleconverter

I finally received all the parts to assemble my new FZ200 with a teleconverter.  It is assembled Camera+DMW-LA7 adapter+55-50mm step down ring+TC-EL 5ed 1.5X teleconverter. I am very new at this so I am not ambitious enough to re-shape any of the parts as has been suggested .

I would like to photograph birds while on a trip to Costa Rica. Both bird photography and Costa Rica will be new to me.  Not to re-invent the wheel, I would like to know if anyone has had success doing something like this or similar using the teleconverter. Are there settings that seem to work better than others.  I would like to use the P or A priority settings exclusively but I'm open to suggestions.  Thank you,  Diana
