Digilux 2 setup question

Yes  this is 2004 technology but I recently got one off eBay and am enjoying its use even among my more  recent cameras such as the fuji x100.

I know it is 2nd hand. Until recently the programmable arrow buttons don't seem to work.Before I consider sending it in for a possibly expensive fix i thought I would see if there is anything I am missing.

it did work when I first got the camera.

shutter count was only 700 when I got it
