not the same optical character as a 50mm magnification.

the way a lens on a specific sensor renders the features does change and look different, and a 35mm lens on an APS does not give the same look as a 50mm on a FF from the perspsective. it just doesn't do it.

If you stick a long needle into a small doll the look of your models and sprinkle spider blood and toad spittle on it at midnight you'll get the same results/look/rendering/character/magic.

Who has time for all that?

The perspective doesn't depend on the focal length, it depends on the angle of view which is a combination of the focal length plus sensor size. Thus the 35 gives as near as dammit the same perspective on cropped frame as the 50 does on full frame. There are slightly different depth of field characteristics, however.

You are right, however, in questioning the time it would take to do all beholder3's stuff. I suspect he is pulling your leg. You can achieve the same outcome any time of the day by sticking your head in  bucket of wqter and doing deep breathing exercises.

Cheers, geoff
