Nikon 50mm f1.4, front focusing on my camera body

If this is your typical subject distance you may be better off with a micro lens you do not mention which version of the 50 1.4 you own , I had this lens on a F4 about 1988 and that was a first generation Nikon AF lens and just designated 1.4 AF, then at a later time the added the D to the naming and now followed by the G version. From reading posts here owners of the current version report that it does  not perform at its best close in and wide open but generally the centre is OK with softening towards the edges.
