As a former 7d and xsi user, the 550d focus is good with ALL points. Utterly reliable in every aspect, and a very mature AF system. My 550 replaced my derelict 7d, and the image quality is simply better. As well, I tested a t4i in the shop- the aria impressive, again for those older but reliable AF systems.

7d af looks really good on paper, but the advanced label is a bit misleading- it's basically a couple of extra AF modes along with the extra points. The spread is awesome. one shot AF was my mainstay, and only used the assist point mode in extreme situations- basically almost never. Zone is almost another 'green' mode, just in smaller selectable chunks.
