Hi,
It seems to me that when you change lenses on a DSLR the mirror is always down and forms a barrier to dust and dirt getting to the sensor (and the focal plain shutter?).
On mirrorless cameras there is no mirror (obviously), so it would seem logical that the sensor is much more open to dust and dirt, especially since the shutter must be open at all times to allow live view off the sensor.

I can't see a mirrorless any more prone to dust except that one that is sitting there "winking" as you might be an easy target for sticky-blob projectiles. The dust that wafts about is not going to be worried that much by a mirror, in fact a flapping mirror is surely going to help by wafting dust around that is already in the cavity every time it moves. Until the dust gets tired and settles somewhere. Like all good advice if there is a potential problem be careful not paranoid. Not sure how much gets into the lens cavity from dirty dusty lens ends as much as any other source.
Ricoh seems to have a sensible solution for their lens mount module that can be attached to their GXR camera. Its shutter defaults closed and therefore acts like a physical "door" barrier to dust. More protection against "projectiles" which might be no more than a tiny blob of moisture that evaporates leaving a micro residure. In the Ricoh case I have had one occassion to remove dust from sensor. The shutter can be made left open when the lens is removed and as the sensor dust must have been "wafted" only it came off first time with a gentle blast of air.
While I'm at it, another question, perhaps dumb. Is the lens always wide open for live view and stops down when I press the shutter release and the shutter first blocks off the light path to the sensor to then open for taking the picture? There doesn't seem a way to stop down the e-mount lenses to see the DOF like you can on most DSLRs.
I don't know the anser to that one.
Thanks for any enlightenment,
Ralph
