Well if you don't believe this, and if you are actually buying the lens to take pictures with (rather than as some sort of obscure investment that you may or may not get your money out of at some indeterminate date in the future), then why would you

  1. Give up a 5-year warranty? and
  2. Take the risk that the used lens has defects/issues?

BTW: I have the MIJ version. Good to know I could sell it for a premium, I guess...
