I use my 20mm lens in quite a different fashion than my 14mm lens. I also shoot a range of subjects, including street, landscape, portraits, etc. For me, it is necessary to have both a normal and a wide option so I can compose with different perspectives.
That said, with both a 14 and a 20 in my bag, I don't see the need to split the difference and get a 17. I have friends who prefer the 17mm look to 14mm, but that is entirely subjective.

A photograph is a creative interpretation of reality.
And I was thinking that I already have 14mm f/2.5 and 25mm f/1.4, so I don't need a 17mm f/1.8 or anything else in between there?
Maybe 17 and 20mm are for wimps, afraid to be normal but also afraid to be true wide angle?
