800mm f/5.6...lighter than 600mm f/4....nice!

That's the point - double the price of the 600mm f4 is absolutely crazy. The only other (available) lens in this price segment is the Signa 200-500mm f2.8.

In my opinion, these are solely made for paparazzi - Nikon tries to cash in some of the dough these people get for topless pictures of princesses and such.

If they would price the 800mm at US $ 11,999, they would sell a lot more to sports and nature photographers. Putting a 600mm f4 plus a TC 14 E II on a high-res FX or even DX body gives similar reach and very good IQ for a lot less money.

Anybody in for a new version of the classic Nikon 1200-1700mm lens?
