Monitor Calibration , mostly color correction or brightness equally ?

After a few posts regarding my canon pixma pro 100 printing photos which are too dark I am leaning towards biting the bulcer and purchasing a monitor calibration device.

i am leaning towards the Spyder 4 Pro, suggestions and recommendations are most welcome.

thus far with printing, using PE controlling colors , papers with icc profiles, I have been more bothered by prints being darker than expected, rather than color mismatches.

perhaps once I fix the brightness issue I will start noticing more issues with color.

when I read reviews on these calibration devices, including their product info, much time is spent discussing accuracy of color reproduction and very little on brightness and white balance.

do these devices pay equal attention and properly calibrate not just colors but brightness of the monitor , gamma, white balance, temperature ?

Thanks for advice and any recommendations .
