I have no idea why people buy these things. The sensor is way too big for a dog slow superzoom, go buy a nice compact with a big zoom ratio. Same quality, half the size.

If you look at lens tests for the Panasonic 14-140, you can see that it is better overall than their 14-42 (original version, hopefully the new one is will be better). It's just a case of carrying more weight, as you imply with "paperweight" in your title.

The Sony E 18-200 is head and shoulders above their E 18-55, even more dramatically than the above case, so a superzoom is not necessarily worse.

It costs as much as a superzoom camera and is bigger, but not, in my opinion, higher quality or more useful.
It is a mistake to describe ANY piece of kit as "useless" because someone, somewhere will have a need for it (for example you might take an MFT and full kit on holiday, but use the 14-150 for day trips).  But I think this is fairly close.
In passing, I don't see any point in buying an MFT camera and just using the 14-42 either.  A compact with a smaller sensor (bad) but a faster lens (good) gets the same or better results in most circumstances.
