Reformatting
In reply to frank-in-toronto, Jan 29, 2013

In my first post I wrote "Take another memory card and make sure that it has been reformatted with the 7D first and has no data in it. "

I always reformat cards in the camera. The OP's card might have some other files in it. Reformatting is the only way to get rid of all data. Other applications can use memory space in the card but I prefer to not have such data in a card if it is to be used by a camera.

I use SD cards in all my laptops and other computers as a first level backup for everything I do because the computers have SD card slots. That's where my older SD cards end up. To a large extent (for me) SD cards have replaced USB memory sticks. (SD cards don't stick out and cost less.)

My older 300D and 40D use CF cards. I don't like them because portable computers don't have slots for them. I always reformat them in the camera being used.
