Wow.  I really made the right decision sending my first 70-200/4 back.  Your test capture is so much better, especially in the corners.  I got a copy from Adorama that was very mediocre at close focus and infinity (only sharp to about 2 pixels on D600).  Contrary to many reviews, it was slightly worse than my 70-200 f/2.8 VR II in the center (even comparing against f/2.8) and significantly less sharp in the corners.  In fact, it was about equal to my 28-300VR @ 300mm and f/5.6 in the center and just a bit better in the corners.  Definitely a bad copy!

I had hoped that I was safe from getting a return from Adorama, but there were a few scuffs on the box lid and it may have been recycled.  I have another copy coming from Amazon on Wednesday.

I use, and have tested, the Nikon 70-200 f4, both on my D7000 (since sold) and my D600. It is one of Nikon's very best! On DX bodies it is pretty much unbeatable. On FX it resolves slightly better than the wonderful 70-200 f2.8. Amazing glass - of course you are limited to f4.

Scroll to the bottom of the Lens Test page. Look at this at 100%
