If you have a following - you can usually get a camera company to sponsor you - which usually means - they will take your old equipment and give you brand new equipment from the sponsoring brand.
I would switch if I got brand new latest and greatest bodies and lenses from a different brand...wouldn't you?

I think many of the pros that switch and things show up publicly are related to support from adopted brand. It happens all the time, both ways. I learned to take these "switch hitters" in stride. Some are awesome photogs, but that's not related, actually, to which brand they use.
