I bought mine with the 24-105 L. The kit is a great price so unless you have the money to buy the 24-70 II you won't loose a dime if you sell the 24-105 later and upgrade. The 24-70 I is pretty soft so it's only advantage is the f2.8. From f4 up, the 24-105 is sharper. Also the IS helps you get sharper pictures.
The Tamron I tried but the IS is just annoying compared to Canon. With the IS on you will see that the image in your viewfinder "jumps" from time to time. They say it is normal and this is the stabilizer at work. I say it's annoying and couldn't get used to it. I have been using the 25-105 with a 5d mark II a lot and love the lens. Also I never saw this image jumping issues with it.
