Yeah, im with you on all that. It does make getting the shot a bit easier if you're rushed, and with having a minimum shutter speed setting its easy to stop the camera choosing the wrong settings and ruining the shot
If im shooting a lot of the same scene ill try and use manual ISO, but like you a lot is just taken on the fly when walking around so having one less thing to think of is great.
Its funny but i had a 40D for almost 3 years, yet it was only in the final few weeks before i sold it that i found out it had (limited) Auto ISO.
