The image in the OP is the sort of image I'm talking about. This later image doesn't have 'smooth and contrasty transitions' to the same extent
Speaking about the converted image in the OP, how do you find it? If I have to be honest, for me it's not a good example of what to do with RAW. It has been obviously pushed well beyond what improvement RAW could really offer without diminishing returns. It has clearly visible halos around the buildings, the noise is very visible even at this 3MP size, there are hue shifts (if that's the correct expression, the tree has a green glow around it) and it looks blurry overall. A case of having too much confidence in RAW headroom for improvement? Martin said it's HDR, but I'm not sure what this mean in effect, I assume it all comes from one RAW file, so I translate it to "trying to get maximum DR out of it"
Martin, I mean no offense, just telling it as I see it! Maybe you threw caution to the wind and sacrificed technical quality for the dramatic effect, I don't know. I personally dislike this kind of HDR, it looks radioactive to me, like what The Day After might look I imagine:)
