That's down to the microlens design. It's completely possible to use the same base sensor with different microlenses (and a different CFA, as we've already seen). Having said that, despite Fuji releasing an official M mount adapter, the current X-Trans sensors don't have microlenses that handle UWA M mount lenses well either, and it suffers from the same problems as the NEX-7.

Exactly.  Ricoh's M module for the GXR is perfectly designed to Leica M mount lenses, all the way to the corner.   Fujifilm's X Trans sensor is distinctly substandard for wide angle use, according to Leica lens users.
