The most popular, and common seems to be the 50 f1.7.

I don't have one and can't compare, but I do remember that the MD 50 f2 was very close in performance.

And the 50 f2 weighs only 165 gms and is about 1 cm longer than the 45. But when you look down the barrel of a 45 it's very narrow and restrictive, very different from any of the other Minolta 50's. Which was the main reason why the 45 had such a bad reputation in the day, when trying to use this diminutive lens on full-frame 35mm cameras. Vignetting, lack of sharpness, etc.
