Yes, the Sigma 70-200 f 2.8 EX OS DG HSM is compatible with the D600.

I had one for 6 months, up until last week when I sold it for the Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR1 - My copy was sharp, but AF in lowlight didnt meet my expectations. It had some focus breathing at closer distances ( 175-180mm shooting subject up close).

I havent tested the 70-200 F4, but if I were you I would rent both and test them out prior to making a final decision. If I were to spend $1400 again, I would defintely buy the Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR (found mint condition on Fleabay for $1400 with 1 yr warranty left) over either one. The 70-200 F4 doesnt include a tripod collar - what bs!!!

Remember, IMHO, F2.8>F4.0 any day of the week. Good luck!!!

There are a number of tripod collars on fleabay going for $25-$30 now.  That being said, the 70-200 f4 is ridiculously light.  I shot about 900 frames froma speed skating event yesterday & it was quite enjoyable to do so with such a small & light lens.  I'm not a fan of the 70-200 f2.8 at 200mm, which is why I'm keeping an eye out on the release of the Tamron 70-200 f2.8.
