The thing about nature photography is that if we think that we are photographing birds and animals... we are missing the point.

True photography is art. Art is the balance and relationship of the subject to it's environment. A photograph is a composition. The bird or animal is an aspect of this composition. The background and environment of the composition is at least equally important.

I have a calendar on my kitchen table, with a picture of different bird for every day. They are perfectly focussed, every feather tack sharp. They are also the dullest and most boring pictures on earth.

I'm not sure where this is all going. But, if we lose sight of all this technology being to create art, we are missing the point

To RBFresno:

Excellent work. I particularly like the seals and the Eagle close-up but they are all great!

Frank

H Frank!

Thanks for the nice words!

I'm fortunate in that photography is just a hobby for me, so I don't worry about pleasing clients!

My interests in photography are varied. I enjoy some images just because of their beauty. Others, because they remind me of the people, places and feelings that I care about. Most of all, I enjoy sharing.

With regard to "Nature Photography", the subject of this thread, I might just add that photography can be one more way to enjoy nature, and as long as the photographer looks at photography in that light, then there are many ways to photograph and enjoy nature.

BTW, just got back from Death Valley and took the obligatory shot of me at the lowest point in North America:

Nikon D4 ,Nikkor AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8G ED ,SB-900
1/100s f/16.0 at 16.0mm iso200

Even though I was there alone, I appreciate that photography is a means to share the experience with friends and family (and forum members as well!).

Best Regards,

RB
