The 14-42mm IIR lens is only an extra $50 with the camera. That is sort of a base for expectations, isn't it?

It's a consumer lens the whole point of it is it's cheap.
Because way more than ten times as many people will buy the 14-42mm.
Molding something out of cheap plastic is ten times easier than crafting something out of metal.The build quality of the 14-42 is really just adequate, the back cover things are rubbish.
