Re: G1X question - If I may...

My biggest concern is autofocus. I rarely if ever shoot sports (and I have DSLR for that). I generally shoot outdoors in good light. I do shoot in museums (where you cannot use a tripod or flash) and other interiors (restaurants, stores etc). Generally these locations are well lit, but obviously, I will be shooting at higher iso.

Higher ISO with this camera is extremely effective and the image quality is excellent in low light. This camera is the perfect museum camera in my opinion. I also shoot in a lot of Restaurants with this camera. Use an area of the subject that offers slight contrast and you will never fail to capture accurate focus. But note also that if your reduce the targeting reticule to the much smaller rectangle rather than the larger one, that you will have less trouble focusing in difficult lighting conditions.

I have read that the G1X auto focus is terrible

Rubbish.

If I may....

The G1X is no slower than any other G-Series camera, and it is faster than some previous models.

The AF is extremely good. Better than many other G-Series cameras. The Image Quality (I.Q.) is beyond that of the other G-Series cameras although it should be considered a stand-alone model that is a derivative of the G-Series without being part of that sequence of models. This is the BEST PowerShot I have used with I.Q. that rivals that of many DSLRs. You'll not find a single DSLR lens that can carry this range whilst maintaining this quality.

Below are 10 samples that were shot in restaurants and similar locations that might show how the camera performs in lowlight when handheld.
