All you have to do is up the ISO one step or shoot at a slower shutter speed by one step. The 35-100 2.8 is like having several 2.8 prime lenses in one.

If you get the 75 1.8 that is it, that is all that lens will ever be.

Yes, but it will be soooo sharp !  And that is the main reason to get primes rather than zooms. That plus getting a faster lens, or getting a lighter and more compact lens.
