Can I do better than the 24-105 kit lens?

Since you are coming from film/point and shoot cameras, the 24-105 will definitely more than satisfy you for quite a while. The difference is amazing. I already came from a 7D/17-55 combo and was still awed at the 5D3/24-105 pics vs the 7D/17-55.

Remember, the 24-105 is a Canon "L" or luxury lens so it is very good and, as a kit lens, such great value.
