Flash for Beginner, Metz ?

Hi,

I'm in Germany now, and while browsing some shops i've bumped into Metz flashes

I really liked the 44 (125Euro) and 52 (185Euro).

I always wanted 430EX II but it was too expensive for me, and now that's flashes i can afford.

From searching here and over the web i find Metz to be reliable as Canon and even sometime over Canon Speedlight.

In case i just wanna start using flash, for event pictures and some portraits. you think i should take the simple 44 one or add the extra 60 Euro for the 52 ?
