How much should a cleaning kit be and is it nessecary? Does brand matter?

Oh plain tap water works? Why do these cam shops push on the brush? Is the brush better than a cloth? Does the water have to be distilled?

I've never needed a brush. I used distilled so that no residue remained on the lens.

Well i figure if you spend money on distilled water, then might as well get the methanol solution no?

I have filtered water at home through Brita but not sure if that would be considered distilled.
