A few shots from recent taken with two inexpensive sigmas. When the light is strong enough and exposure on, the a55 bypassing auto-nr(cant turn it off) can yield quite the detail and range.

NR: Weak, Long Exposure NR: Off are my default settings on A55, but I mostly shoot RAW+JPEG. The NR settings are primarily for occasions when the camera won't write RAW anyway (HHT, MFNR etc).

Thank you...but i have found that auto nr is cleaner than 'weak' . On weak nr 400iso and under, the j-peg engine wont do a noise reduction when uneeded, or at least quite a bit less.  the weak settng seems to do a nr regardless of iso or light available.

Thats after countless sparrow feather detail shots......with auto or weak. It probably makes a difference 800 and up but i dont look so much then because i do a nr aft if needed. thanks again, brian
