Drop a 'plastic' DSLR and an X10 onto a concrete sidewalk and see which one dents, and which one still works afterwards.

Or watch this video. Starting at about 6:45.....

dslr torture test

Yes one of my favourite DigitalRev videos. Kai's usually an acquired taste but I think the irreverence is particularly well suited to this particular subject of torturing those poor DSLR's, and makes this one more accessible than most. Quite incredible the punishment they took.

I'm glad someone looked at the video (or felt like commenting afterward). If the cameras had crunched, cracked and broken (granted, while being used as shoes for walking on concrete, being used to pound nails, or having a PC dropped onto them) there might be some value to all this toffee-nosing about 'plastic bodies can't compare to metal bodies'. The Canon and Nikon each took a literal pounding and to the very end they continued to work - even the autofocus. Heck, there are cameras that come out of the box (and velvet bag?) new that don't work so well.

Kai is a character but I think he's pretty sharp.
